Christopher Nolan Talks Third Batman, Says Joker Won’t Be Back

Christopher Nolan recently talked to Empire Magazine about the third Batman film.  Though he was apparently pretty vague, he did say that he “would not be comfortable” recasting The Joker.  Pretty disappointing, in my opinion.  I read an article recently where a blogger made a convincing case for casting Joseph Gordon-Levitt in the role.  Gordon-Levitt, who starred in last year’s indie hit 500 Days Of Summer and is appearing this summer the Nolan directed Inception does look a lot like Ledger, and from what I’ve seen he has the acting chops to pull off a challenging role.  According to Nolan, though, it’s not going to happen.

I have a sinking feeling that the third Batman movie is going to be a disappointment.  It’s pretty inevitable really; The Dark Knight was such a powerhouse of a film that it would be almost impossible for the third one not to be a bit of a letdown.  Also, The Joker is by far the best Batman villain.  So we’ll see what happens.  So far in his career, every film Nolan has put out has been fabulous.  I’ll leave you with the trailer for Inception, which looks like it could be the best movie of the summer.

  1. Yeah, you’re right. His story never was resolved. In fact, from what I’ve heard Ledger was signed for the 3rd movie to return as the Joker. But like you said, that’s not going to happen. Have you heard anything about the villains that are going to be featured in the upcoming movie? I’ve heard rumors about a penguin and possible riddler..

  2. Yeah, I mean, it would be weird to see someone else playing him. At the same time, I don’t think the Joker’s story was really resolved; do they put him in jail, in Arkham Asylum, or what? I definitely think they were going to try to wrap that up in the third movie, but obviously now it’s not going to happen.

  3. Bummer, no joker! I don’t blame Nolan for not continuing with the Joker because honestly, I don’t know if anyone can fill in the shoes that Heath Ledger has left behind in his last performance. Joseph Gordon-Levitt would be an awesome casting for the Joker eventually but right now its too soon!
