Nada Surf Covering Depeche Mode=Awesome
Depeche Mode is an underrated 80’s band. I feel like they just get lumped in with the New Order/Tears for Fears and the rest of the kinda crappy New Wave crowd, but they’ve actually got some really solid songs. Nada Surf is also an underrated band. I first saw them at FNX’s (that’s an alternative radio station in Boston for those of you who don’t know) Best Music Poll way back in 2006. I didn’t really know the band other than the one song they had on FNX at the time (“Always Love”) but they were pretty fun to watch live. There was an interesting dichotomy between the energetic lead singer and the stoic, tree-like creature playing bass. Seriously, this guy looks like a tree: he’s got long, vine-like hair and he appeared to be rooted to his spot on the floor. At any rate, I’d recommend checking out Nada Surf’s 2008 album “Lucky.” It’s just a really solid pop-rock record with a bunch of good songs. In particular, the album-opener, “See These Bones” is worth listening to.
So what I’m trying to say is that I was happy to hear NS covering Depeche Mode’s “Enjoy The Silence” on the radio the other day. Download that one too, if you like, or you can just watch the video here:
