Jazz Pick Up Al Jefferson

Jazz fans panicking over the losses of Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver can relax a little bit with the news that Utah has picked up Timberwolves forward/center Al Jefferson.  The acquisition comes as part of a sign and trade deal which apparently does not require Utah to send back any players, according to this article from ESPN\’s Marc Stein.  Despite playing on some horrific T’Wolves teams over the past three years, Jefferson has been a solid player, averaging about 20 points per game and hauling down around 10 boards per game.

I don’t know how well Jefferson fits into Utah’s offense.  The Jazz run a pretty precise offense that relies on good ball movement and solid fundamentals, and Jefferson always struck me as not having a great sense of the finer points of the game.  Still, I like this move.  The Jazz were crushed by a lack of size in the playoffs after losing Mehment Okur, and Al definitely gives them a big body who won’t be afraid to band with the big guys.  Boozer, despite being fundamentally sound and a good fit for the Jazz system, had a hard time handling the bigger power forwards on defense.  Now if the Jazz could only bring back Matt Harpring, they’d have a real chance…
