17) What Is The Best Sports Commercial Of All Time?
Q. What is the best sports-related commercial of all time?
A. Jordan “There are no Cinderellas.”
Sports commercials are generally more well done than your usual commercial, primarily because they really don’t have to shove the product in the viewers face. It’s a simple formula, really; put some great athletes in your gear and have them doing heroic looking things. There’s always someone out there thinking “Hey, Larry Bird was wearing Converse All-Stars in that commercial. If I got those shoes, I might play just like him!”
“There are no Cinderellas” pretty much hits on all the sports-commercial high points. Famous athletes (Chris Paul, Michael Jordan, etc.) interspersed with clips of legendary underdog teams (Appalachian State, Boise State, N.C. State) and images of those teams/players working hard. My favorite part about it is that the commercial actually has a point; these teams and players didn’t become “Cinderellas” by some blue fairy godmother waving a magic wand, they did these things through hard work. Corny? Maybe, but I won’t lie, every time I stumble across this one on YouTube I get goosebumps.
